One of the ways this control is accomplished is with an insulin pump that acts like a healthy functioning pancreases for you, secreting a steady stream of insulin throughout the body both day and night. When you eat you simply check your glucose level and enter the amount into the pump and the estimate of how many carbohydrates you will eat.

The pump will determine how much insulin is already in your system and how much insulin should be given. The pump will then administer the proper amount of insulin into your body. This greatly reduces the number of needle injections to around three a day, when you need to change out the pump reservoir and tubing. (However, you will need to check your glucose in regular intervals.) With the continuous improvements in technology, there is also ongoing development on a pump that will automatically check your glucose levels for you!
