Clinical

Doctor for Life is a one of a kind medical practice. Our lead physician Cheryl Sarmiento, MD, is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Child and Adult Obesity Medicine. Her team shares a talent and passion for true patient care centered in Healthy Weight Lifestyle.

Internal Medicine

Internal Medicine specializes in the care of adult patients with undefined symptoms and various medical issues and focuses on prevention, diagnosis and treatment throughout all stages of the disease process.

Obesity Medicine

We specialize in weight management for children and adults. Over two-thirds of Americans are overweight and over one-third are obese. Carrying extra weight takes a toll on the body, as well as increases the risk of chronic and fatal diseases. Doctor for Life can help you start and maintain healthy, life-saving habits.

Registered Dietitian

A Registered Dietitian and Nutritionist is a food and nutrition expert who has met rigorous academic and professional requirements. Our RDN practices Medical Nutrition Therapy in order to improve patients’ immediate health, outcomes and quality of life.

Behavioral Counseling

People make choices every day. Counseling can help you understand those choices and their emotional and habitual triggers. Work with a Health Coach to reinforce desirable behaviors and correct those that are not.

Exercise Prescription

How should you exercise? When should you exercise? A beginner may be confused, and even someone who was previously very active could be overwhelmed. The Doctor for Life team can provide necessary guidance, based on your fitness level and outcome goals.

When you hear about clinical weight loss, what do you think of? Weight loss meds and surgery, probably, but it doesn’t have to be that extreme. Our practice is committed to helping patients understand key health markers, reverse chronic diseases and decrease the need for medications that interact with organ systems by way of simple lifestyle changes.

Internal medicine

Here, we instruct patients on the ways that healthy lifestyle choices affect their body systems, discuss key markers of health like metabolic function, and provide other medical knowledge you won’t get from just any old diet clinic. Our comprehensive clinical system helps you get the crucial foundations you need to achieve clinical weight loss in the present, and lasting health over the course of your life.

Obesity Medicine

Many chronic diseases are caused by stress on your body from weight that it isn’t built to endure. Heart disease, blood pressure and arterial issues, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, high cholesterol levels and even various cancers can be linked to obesity, which at worst can be life-threatening, and at best necessitate the taking of daily medications. Living with a laundry list of daily medications is no way to go through life, and although some of these issues are irreversible, many of them aren’t as severe when patients make lifestyle changes in time. Some have even shown remission when a patient completely cleans up their diet and exercise habits, and that’s our goal at Doctor for Life.

Registered Dietitian

Doctor for Life sees a dietitian’s role in clinical weight loss as being crucial — that is, with the support of a nutritional expert, you can learn new skills about nutrients and what your body needs to function at its most effective.

Behavioral counseling

You might not realize that obesity can play a role in your emotional health. If you’re overweight, you’re at higher risk to develop (or worsen) eating disorders, as well as depression and anxiety. Learning your triggers in a clinical weight loss setting allows you to not only treat the behaviors that led to the level of health you currently occupy, but can prevent serious emotional conditions in the future.

Exercise prescription

How should you exercise? When should you exercise? A beginner may be confused, and even someone who was previously very active could be overwhelmed. The Doctor for Life team can provide necessary guidance, based on your fitness level and outcome goals.

Even if you’re not a beginner, serious athletes get into workout ruts just like anyone else. There’s no shame in admitting you need guidance and our expert training team can help.
